Enabling Surgeons to practice without Human Bodies – Mimyk

Mimyk is a spin-off from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. They work on developing immersive medical simulation technologies and combine hardware and software to build next-gen simulation platforms. The current focus at Mimyk is an endoscopy simulation platform. They are incubated at the Society for Innovation and Development (SID), IISc.

Just like flight simulators are used to train young pilots, and give them hands-on experience at flying. Similarly, Mimyk has successfully developed a laparoscopy simulator which will allow new surgeons to be able to practice their laparoscopic surgeries on. The core purpose of this simulator, called “Endomymik” is to train surgeons without human patients, in a virtual reality through graphical visualizations and haptics.

Shanthanu Chakravarthy, Nithin Shivashankar, Raghu Menon and Balaji Gopal are the co-founders at Mimyk. In a conversation with IncubateIND, the co-founders talk about how Mimyk’s simulator is disrupting the healthcare industry.
